Fireworks on Halloween

I’ll never understand fireworks and Halloween. This just doesn’t make sense to me and here are my reasons why.

  1. It’s fall, which means dead leaves which can easily go up in flames
  2. Why can’t you buy fireworks during Canada Day in this province?
  3. You need a license to buy them
  4. People set them off downtown on streets and near high rises
  5. Only drunk people seem to enjoy them and most kids are indoors by night fall and going through their candy hall of the evening.

This year I have to say that there were less incidence of them being used than all previous 10 years I’ve lived in Vancouver. Hopefully this is a sign that next year will result in fewer fireworks throughout the city. I’m sure the fire departments would love to have them removed completely during this time of year and hopefully they weren’t too busy as a result of the craziness.

Belive it or not, fireworks are strictly a BC thing. BRITISH Columbia celebrated Guy Fawkes Day up until the 1970s, when it began to be overtaken by Halloween. They kept the fireworks, since who doesn’t like fireworks?–I mean, other than those of us who don’t want to hear them at all hours. Or the police. Or the fire department. Or…

Oh I love fireworks too, but why can’t you get them during the summer. You can’t buy them on Canada Day of all days when we should be allowed to buy them.

When I lived in Pitt Meadows the neighbourhoods would get together and buy a bunch of fireworks and then have their own little fireworks display. It was fun.

We took fireworks down to English Bay one year and shot them off over the water.

I don’t trust ppl with roman candles and pointing them at people and vehicles though. but no matter what regulations/bylaws they put in place, there will always be the dumb ones who do stupid things etc.

I do find it odd though that they dont sell fireworks during Canada Day or New Years Eve, but then I guess because typically those two days involve partying/drinking. Whereas Halloween isn’t typically known for being a drunken debauchery night, or i just simply choose to ignore it.
